Cornell University Four Honored May Community Heroes of the Month
In partnership with the Tompkins Chamber, we have named four individuals from Cornell University as the May 2021 recipients of the Community Hero of the Month Awards, which recognize individuals from Tompkins County who have significantly impacted our community:
- Gary Koretsky, Vice Provost for Academic Integration
- Sharon McMullen, Assistant Vice President of Student & Campus Life for Health and Well-being, Peter Frazier
- Associate Professor in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering
- Patricia Wynn, Assistant Vice President for Student and Campus Life
These individuals were recognized for their significant work throughout the last fourteen months to help Cornell University, as well as the Ithaca and Tompkins County communities, respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their expertise and hard work helped to protect students, staff, faculty, and the community from the possible health and economic consequences brought on by the public health crisis.
Jennifer Tavares, President and CEO of the Tompkins Chamber, shared her appreciation for the foursome, “Without the personal sacrifice and hard work of these four honorees from Cornell University, and the teams they’ve led, Ithaca and Tompkins County could not have responded so swiftly and brilliantly to the biggest challenge of our time.” She added, “Their impact is significant, and we are very grateful for the chance to publicly honor them.”
Tompkins Trust Company President and CEO Greg Hartz added, “We are pleased to present this award to these four individuals who have made such immense contributions throughout the last year and thank them for their dedication and commitment to our community.”
The four individuals from Cornell University will receive a Community Hero of the Month plaque and a few additional surprises from Tompkins Trust Company.
